“What Would You Say You Do Here?”

Speaker of the House, John Boehner, is calling out his Democrat colleagues in Washington, D.C., and he’s added a little humor to it.  In a post to his site today, Boehner’s office asks a familiar question, at least to those movie fans among us:

WILL SENATE DEMOCRATS EVER PASS A BUDGET? “Mr. Reid’s Senate has not produced a budget in three years,” writes Kim Strassel in the Wall Street Journal. In the 1,361 days since the Democratic-controlled Senate last passed a budget, rampant spending has helped add more than $5 trillion to the debt. Senate Democrats also sat on more than 40 House-passed jobs bills over the last two years. “In Mr. Reid’s Washington, the House works its will, the Senate does crossword puzzles.”

WILL POTUS SUBMIT A RESPONSIBLE BUDGET ON TIME? “Ordinary folks, they do their jobs,” says President Obama. “They meet deadlines.” But the president can’t seem to meet his. According to The Hill, “The White House has informed House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) that it will miss the legal deadline for sending a budget to Congress” – for the fourth time. The extra time hasn’t made his proposals any stronger. None of them have had the spending cuts and reforms needed to address our debt; the last one was unanimously defeated in the House and Senate, 0-513.

WILL THE WHITE HOUSE JOBS COUNCIL EVER MEET AGAIN? “President Barack Obama’s Jobs Council hit a notable milestone on Thursday: one year without an official meeting,” reports Politico. According to Jim Pethokoukis, our economy is so sluggish that we “won’t return to pre-Great Recession employment levels until after 2025,” and real wage growth is “pretty much flat.” He says “2012 was another lost year for American workers” – it was apparently a lost year for the president’s jobs council, too.

I won’t reprint the entire post, but please visit the Speaker’s site for the full content–it’s worth the read.  We’re going on four years without a budget, and the President’s last budget was so unsustainable, it failed to garner a single vote in either the House or the Senate.  There’s no leadership coming from any Democrat in D.C.

It’s no wonder we’re left asking, “What would you say you do here?”
